Georgia South Residency Programs Match with New Residents

Georgia South Graduate Medical Education is pleased to announce that both residency programs have successfully filled their full complement of residents for the upcoming academic year.

Georgia South Family Medicine Residency Program matched with its ninth class of residents. The family medicine class of 2027 includes Kevin Bhagratie, MD, Eric Mbua, MD, Anika Procope, MD, and Macy Rowan, DO.

For its third year, Georgia South Psychiatry Residency Program matched with three residents. These residents, who will spend four years of training in the psychiatry program, include Dina Badawy, MD, Wilson Baumgartner, MD, and Faith Hagler, MD.

In a residency program, “matching” means the doctors that Georgia South selected also selected Georgia South. These seven residents were chosen out of a combined pool of 951 total applicants.

“In 2016, we welcomed a group of three residents for the inaugural class of our family medicine residency program,” said Colquitt Regional President and CEO Jim Matney. “We have built capacity through the addition of a psychiatry residency and now have 18 current residents between both programs. Once we reach our full complement in July 2025, we will have 24 residents total. This remarkable growth underscores not only the increasing demand for physicians in our area, but also our dedication to training the next generation of healthcare providers right here in South Georgia.”

Georgia South has been successful in attracting top talent to its programs, and seven of its graduates are now practicing medicine in Colquitt County. These include Jessica Brumfield-Mitchum, D.O., Michael Magat, D.O., Catie Duskin, D.O., and Kayla Batchelor, D.O, Ethan McBrayer, D.O., Jermaine Robinson, D.O., and Stephen Yarbrough, D.O.

Each year, graduating medical students across the nation apply for acceptance into residency programs. This is a very in-depth process that involves an online application and multiple interviews. At the end of the interview season, each candidate and each program rank their top choices. On the designated national Match Day, the National Residency Match Program reveals which candidates matched into which programs.

“As we celebrate this new cohort of residents, we look forward to welcoming them to Colquitt Regional and the Colquitt County community,” said Hospital Authority Chairman Richard E. Turner, Jr. “These talented individuals represent the future of medicine and we are honored to play a role in shaping their training and educational journey.”

The new academic year begins for both new classes of residents in the summer of 2024. A formal ceremony will be held later this year to officially welcome the new residents.
