Brooks Sheldon, a Moultrie native and retired local businessman, was recently honored with a reception to celebrate his 18 years of service to the Hospital Authority of Colquitt County. First appointed in 2000, Sheldon was reappointed in 2009 assuming various leadership roles during that time.
From 2006 to 2009 Sheldon served as Chairman of the Finance Committee and in 2008 he was named Chairman of the Authority, a position he held until 2012. Under his watch Colquitt Regional’s finances were fiscally sound. This allowed for millions of dollars to be invested in future expansion and renovation projects and in the purchase of state-of-the-art medical equipment.
“Brooks grew up in Moultrie and has been a true advocate for improving the healthcare available to the citizens of Colquitt County,” said Richard Bass, current Chairman of the Hospital Authority. “He has offered valuable insight into the growth and progression of Colquitt Regional and we will continue to benefit from his contributions for years to come.”
Members of the Hospital Authority and administrative team who have worked closely with Sheldon during his tenure on the board attended the reception where Colquitt Regional President & CEO Jim Matney expressed his appreciation for Sheldon. “Brooks has become a personal friend and I am honored to have been able to work with him,” said Matney. “He has many years of experience in banking and finance and that background has proven to be very helpful as we plan for the long-term growth and sustainability of healthcare in our community.”
In addition to serving on the Authority, Sheldon and his family established a scholarship fund with the Colquitt Regional Medical Foundation to provide an annual scholarship for a hospital employee desiring to further their education within the healthcare field. This scholarship was named in memory of his late parents Jane and Sam Perry.
