Colquitt Regional volunteers donate socks to local schools

The Colquitt Regional Volunteer Auxiliary recently made a donation to two local elementary schools that will benefit children in need.

The volunteers purchased 1,880 pairs of socks to distribute to children at Cox Elementary School and Stringfellow Elementary School. The intention behind this donation is to allow children to have “Happy Feet” during the cold, damp winter months.

When Volunteer Auxiliary project chairman Carolyn Christie reached out to Cox and Stringfellow and discovered the great need for socks, the volunteers were quick to find a way to help.

“We are so fortunate to have a group of volunteers who are so benevolent and compassionate,” said Jim Matney, Colquitt Regional president and CEO. “Our volunteers actively donate their time and resources to help Colquitt Regional and members of the community.”

These contributions are made possible through the proceeds of The Pink Pearl gift shop, located in the main lobby of the hospital. The Pink Pearl carries a selection of gift items, apparel, jewelry, flowers and candies.

The earnings from the shop allows volunteers to purchase needed medical equipment for the hospital, assist in hospital improvement projects and aid in an annual community projects.

“When you purchase items in our gift shop, you are helping us to not only give back to our hospital but to our community too,” said Martha Greene-Tucker, Volunteer Auxiliary president.

Other recent donations from the Volunteer Auxiliary include: a mock crash cart for nurse training, an activity chair for the Speech Therapy program, a $10,000 donation to Colquitt Regional Medical Foundation, and a $2,500 contribution to Meals on Wheels at the Moultrie Senior Center, among numerous others.

Colquitt Regional is a 99-bed teaching hospital located in Moultrie, Georgia. With over 90 providers, more than 30 specialties and 1,350 employees, Colquitt Regional is committed to providing exceptional healthcare that exceeds expectations for Colquitt County and the surrounding areas.
