Lap band

While lifestyle changes remain central to any obesity treatment program, weight-loss surgery is becoming an option for more people who struggle with obesity. Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding, or “lap band,” is a surgical procedure that secures a belt around the upper part of the stomach. The band can be adjusted to restrict the size of the stomach, allowing in less food. Lap band surgery allows eaters to feel fuller after smaller portions. It is generally recommended only for people who are at least 30 pounds overweight and in some cases, people may need to lose weight before they can undergo the surgery.
