Pet Therapy Program

Colquitt Regional is excited to welcome three new dogs to provide comfort for patients, visitors, and even during their stay at the hospital.

These are recently certified therapy dogs who have been trained as another part of the hospital’s therapeutic team. The dogs are part of three different dog/handler teams. Scout and Charlie are both mixed breeds that were adopted by different families from the Moultrie-Colquitt County Humane Society. Maggie is an Australian shepherd. The dogs and their owners have spent hours training and have passed their certification tests through Therapy Dogs International. Animal-assisted therapy is a growing field that uses dogs to help patients recover from or cope with health problems. This type of therapy can range from supporting cancer patients to providing companionship for hospice patients. Research has consistently shown the psychological benefits of therapy dogs and their ability to ease stress and anxiety. The end goal is to enrich the quality of life for the patient and families, as well.
