Southwest Georgia Bank donates $100,000 to Colquitt Regional

Southwest Georgia Bank recently presented Colquitt Regional Medical Center with a $100,000 check through participation in the Georgia HEART Tax Credit program.

This financial support will significantly aid in funding resources for capital equipment needed in the current expansion of the Edwards Cancer Center with radiation oncology treatments, uncompensated patient care, and with the hospital’s plans for a new education and training center for clinical and medical staff.

“Community partnerships are vital to the life of our hospital and healthcare system,” said Jim Matney, Colquitt Regional president and CEO. “We are grateful to Southwest Georgia Bank for their contribution and investment in the future of Colquitt Regional.”

The Georgia Rural Hospital Tax Credit Program was passed in 2016 as a result of rural hospital closures since 2008. The Georgia General Assembly passed this law to assist rural hospitals in their growth and expand healthcare services during economic hardship.

Through Georgia HEART, a total of $3.3 million was contributed to Colquitt Regional Medical Center in 2019.

Southwest Georgia Bank was one of 227 Georgia taxpayers in 2019 to redirect their Georgia income tax liability to help support Colquitt Regional. There were a total of 141 Colquitt Regional employees who allocated their state tax dollars to the hospital which totaled $1.2 million given by employees alone.

Additional businesses and individuals contributed a total of $2.1 million, with 41 percent of the individuals residing outside of Colquitt County.

The check was presented to Shamb Purohit, Colquitt Regional vice president of Financial Services and CFO, by Ross Dekle, Moultrie Region president, Southwest Georgia Bank.

“The funds received through Georgia HEART will allow Colquitt Regional to keep growing and expanding,” said Maureen A. Yearta, Ed.D., Hospital Authority Chairman. “The donors who have contributed through this program can know that they have made an impact on healthcare in the community for the present and future generations to come.”
