Colquitt Regional Medical Center has officially been designated as a Georgia Level IV Trauma Center by the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH), Office of EMS and Trauma. The designation marks an important step forward in expanding emergency care services for patients across South Georgia.

MOULTRIE, GA — A Level IV Trauma Center is equipped to provide rapid evaluation, stabilization, and treatment for patients experiencing traumatic injuries. This means patients can receive critical emergency care immediately and close to home before being transferred to a higher-level trauma center if additional specialized treatment is needed.

For the community, the designation formally recognizes the trauma care and emergency response services Colquitt Regional has consistently provided to patients across South Georgia. As a Level IV Trauma Center, the hospital will continue building on those capabilities while further strengthening coordination with regional trauma partners.

The designation follows a comprehensive review process completed on April 28, 2026, during which Colquitt Regional was evaluated using standards established by the Georgia Department of Public Health and the American College of Surgeons’ Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient.

“Achieving Level IV Trauma Center designation represents an important investment in the health and safety of our region,” said Colquitt Regional Health System President and CEO Jim Matney. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our physicians, nurses, EMS partners, and support staff who work every day to provide high-quality emergency care for the communities we serve.”

As a designated Level IV Trauma Center, Colquitt Regional will continue to work closely with regional trauma partners to ensure patients receive the right level of care as quickly and efficiently as possible. The designation also demonstrates the hospital’s ongoing commitment to strengthening access to healthcare throughout South Georgia.

“This achievement reinforces Colquitt Regional’s role as a trusted healthcare resource for our community and region,” said Hospital Authority Chairman John Griffin. “Having trauma care capabilities available locally gives patients and families peace of mind knowing advanced emergency care is available close to home.”

Colquitt Regional has continued to invest in emergency medicine, physician recruitment, advanced technology, and staff training to meet the growing healthcare needs of the region. The Level IV Trauma Center designation is another example of the organization’s commitment to expanding access to specialized care and improving patient safety.
