Colquitt Regional Health System is expanding access to advanced heart care in South Georgia with the launch of a new Interventional Cardiology service line, allowing patients to receive more advanced cardiac procedures in Moultrie.

MOULTRIE, GA — The new service will offer elective interventional cardiology procedures, including stenting and balloon angioplasty, which are used to open blocked or narrowed arteries and improve blood flow to the heart. Previously, while Colquitt Regional performed diagnostic cardiac catheterizations to identify heart conditions, patients requiring intervention were treated at a neighboring facility.

With the addition of interventional cardiology, many patients will now be able to complete both diagnosis and treatment at Colquitt Regional.

“This is an important step forward for our health system and community,” said Colquitt Regional President and CEO Jim Matney. “For years, we have provided high-quality diagnostic cardiac services. Now, we are able to offer more comprehensive cardiac care at Colquitt Regional, helping patients receive the care they need closer to family and support systems.”

The interventional cardiology program will be led by cardiologists Dr. Clay Sizemore and Dr. Chris Daniels of Cardiovascular Consultants of South Georgia, LLC, who will provide specialized care to patients requiring minimally invasive procedures to treat coronary artery disease and other cardiovascular conditions.

“We are excited to bring interventional cardiology services to Colquitt Regional and expand the range of cardiac treatment options available to patients,” said Sizemore. “Timely intervention can make a meaningful difference in a patient’s health and quality of life, and this new service will allow more patients to receive advanced heart care in Moultrie.”

As part of the expansion, Colquitt Regional has invested in a fully renovated cardiac catheterization laboratory, including a new catheterization table and advanced technology and equipment designed to support interventional procedures and enhance patient care.

“The launch of interventional cardiology reflects the dedication and collaboration of many teams across our health system,” said Colquitt Regional Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Executive Dena Zinker, MSN, RN, NE-BC, FACHE. “From facility upgrades and new technology to staff training and clinical preparation, we have worked diligently to ensure patients receive the highest level of care as we expand our cardiac services.”

Interventional cardiology procedures are minimally invasive and performed using catheter-based techniques to treat blocked arteries, often helping reduce symptoms such as chest pain and lowering the risk of heart attack. Patients will typically be evaluated through an office visit and diagnostic testing to determine whether an interventional procedure is appropriate.

“Our goal is to continue providing services that improve access and outcomes for patients in Colquitt County and South Georgia,” said Hospital Authority Chairman John Griffin. “Heart disease remains one of the leading health concerns in our region. By adding interventional cardiology, we are strengthening our ability to care for patients locally and reducing the need for travel when advanced cardiac treatment is needed.”
