Colquitt Regional Health System has earned its 21st “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit organization committed to healthcare transparency and patient safety. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the gold standard for measuring how well hospitals prevent medical errors, accidents, injuries, and infections—issues that contribute to more than 500 patient deaths per day nationwide.

MOULTRIE, GA —The Leapfrog Group assigns hospitals a letter grade of “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” based on more than 30 measures of safety performance. Colquitt Regional earned an “A” for its proven systems, training, and safety-first culture.

“We are honored to receive our 21st ‘A’ safety grade from The Leapfrog Group,” said Colquitt Regional President and CEO Jim Matney. “This truly reflects the dedication of our entire team—from physicians and nurses to environmental services and every department in between. Our goal has always been to provide exceptional, high-quality care in the safest environment possible, and this achievement demonstrates our commitment to our patients and community.”

Colquitt Regional earned perfect scores in key patient safety measures, including computer-based medication ordering, safe medication administration practices, ICU physician qualifications, error prevention leadership, staff teamwork, bedside nursing care, and hand hygiene. The hospital also scored 93% in communication with nurses and 92% in communication with doctors.

“Earning this ‘A’ is a reflection of Colquitt Regional’s consistent focus on patient safety,” said Hospital Authority Chairman John Griffin. “Our community can feel confident knowing they receive some of the safest care in the nation, right here at home.”

Colquitt Regional continues to invest heavily in innovative safety practices and real-time monitoring systems designed to reduce preventable harm. These efforts include expanded infection prevention strategies, advanced medication safety protocols, and ongoing patient communication training. The hospital’s culture emphasizes transparency, accountability, and clinical excellence at every touchpoint.

“Our highest priority is protecting our patients,” said Matney. “Whether it’s adding new technology, improving processes, or training our staff, we are always looking for ways to make care safer.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only national hospital ratings program that focuses exclusively on preventable errors, injuries, and infections. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public. Grades are updated each spring and fall.
