Colquitt Regional Health System has been named by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of only 280 hospitals in the United States with a zero methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection rate, according to the latest data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This recognition places Colquitt Regional among a select group of hospitals nationwide demonstrating exceptional success in infection prevention.

MOULTRIE, GA —The CMS Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) database, developed using CDC methodologies and collected through the National Healthcare Safety Network, tracks how often patients develop infections during medical care. The most recent data—covering October 2023 to September 2024—evaluates hospitals using a standardized infection ratio (SIR) that accounts for patient acuity, age, care setting, lab methods, and hospital size. A zero MRSA rate signals superior performance in safety protocols and quality of care.

“This recognition is the result of tremendous teamwork and a hospital-wide commitment to doing what’s best for our patients,” said Jim Matney, President and CEO of Colquitt Regional. “Achieving a zero MRSA rate reflects the dedication of our physicians, nurses, and infection prevention specialists who work tirelessly every day to ensure our hospital remains one of the safest in the nation.”

Hospital Authority Chairman John Griffin noted the significance of this achievement for the community. “When our citizens come to Colquitt Regional, they deserve the highest standard of care—and this recognition confirms that’s exactly what they receive,” Griffin said. “A zero MRSA rate is an extraordinary accomplishment and a direct reflection of the professionalism, vigilance, and pride our staff bring to the job.”

The achievement also reinforces Colquitt Regional’s longstanding focus on continuous improvement across all areas of patient safety. In recent years, the health system has implemented enhanced cleaning technologies, strengthened antimicrobial stewardship programs, and expanded data-driven monitoring to identify and address risks before they impact patients. These efforts, combined with strong collaboration between clinical teams, have created a culture of safety that consistently yields high-quality outcomes.

Colquitt Regional continues to advance its infection prevention strategies through ongoing staff education, evidence-based protocols, and continuous quality improvement measures, ensuring patients receive safe, reliable, and exceptional care.
