Colquitt Regional Health System is recognizing Donate Life Month this April by raising awareness about the importance of organ, eye, and tissue donation and the lifesaving impact donors can have on patients and families in need.

MOULTRIE, GA —Over the last two years, Colquitt Regional has had three organ donors, which resulted in five organs being successfully transplanted. These donations helped save five lives. During that same time, the health system also had three tissue donors. Just one tissue donor can help up to 75 people, meaning these generous gifts have the potential to improve the lives of many individuals.

To honor those who give the gift of life, Colquitt Regional holds an Honor Walk for organ donors. During this special tribute, hospital employees and visitors are invited to line the hallways as the donor is escorted through the facility, offering a moment of respect and gratitude for the life-saving decision made by the donor and their family.

“Organ and tissue donation provides hope to patients and families facing serious medical challenges,” said Colquitt Regional President and CEO Jim Matney. “We are grateful to the donors and their loved ones who made the decision to give others a second chance. Their generosity has made a meaningful difference and reflects the compassion within our community.”

Colquitt Regional works closely with its donation partners to ensure that patients and families are supported throughout the donation process and that opportunities for donation are handled with care and respect. Donate Life Month serves as an opportunity to educate the community about donation and encourage individuals to consider registering as donors.

Tissue donation can help patients in a variety of ways, including restoring mobility, aiding in wound healing, and improving quality of life following injury or illness. With the potential to help up to 75 people, a single tissue donor can make a significant impact.

“The impact of donation extends far beyond one individual,” said Hospital Authority Chairman John Griffin. “We are proud of the role our organization plays in supporting donation and honoring the wishes of those who choose to give. Donate Life Month is an important reminder of how one decision can positively affect so many lives.”

Nationally, thousands of patients are currently waiting for organ transplants, highlighting the ongoing need for registered donors. Colquitt Regional encourages community members to learn more about organ and tissue donation and to consider registering and sharing their decision with loved ones.

Anyone, regardless of their age or health can make their decision to become a registered organ and tissue donor when obtaining a driver license through the Department of Driver Services, when purchasing a hunting or fishing license online through the Department of Natural Resources, or online by going to www.DonateLifeGeorgia.org.
