Moultrie, Georgia

Located in Southwest Georgia just 60 miles north of Tallahassee, Fla., Moultrie is the seat of Colquitt County. Moultrie’s population is approximately 15,600 and Colquitt County’s population is approximately 40,100. Colquitt County has long been recognized for its dominance in agriculture, and Moultrie is the long-time host of the Sunbelt Agricultural Exposition, an event that attracts thousands of visitors each year.

Cotton and peanuts are among Georgia’s top cash crops, but Colquitt County’s agriculture is very diverse, featuring vegetable crops such as tomatoes, bell peppers and eggplant.

While agriculture is king in Colquitt County, a number of other industries thrive in our area. Maule Aircraft, manufacturers of small passenger airplanes, is headquartered in Moultrie. Oakwood Homes, one of the leading producers of manufactured housing, is also located in Moultrie.

If leisure activities are what you seek, you’ll find a number of “adventures” in Moultrie and Colquitt County. Golfers will enjoy 18-hole Sunset Country Club in Moultrie, Barren’s Golf Course in Doerun, and a newly-created walking course, Rogers’ Gardens, near Moultrie. Other nearby courses are located in Thomasville (25 miles), Tifton (30 miles), and Albany (45 miles). Sunset also offers beautiful facilities for tennis, swimming and dining.

Outdoorsmen will be delighted to find the excellent hunting and fishing opportunities of Moultrie and the surrounding area. Several plantations offer quail hunting packages and lodging. Other popular game include deer and dove.

If you’re an aquatics enthusiast, you won’t want to miss the Moose Moss Diving Well, a world class diving facility dedicated to one of Moultrie’s sports legends. The Moss diving team is recognized around the country for its excellence in amateur diving, and many young divers move to Moultrie to train under the Moss coaching staff.

Moultrie’s YMCA offers yet another fitness amenity. This facility features a gymnasium, indoor pool, racquetball courts, Nautilus and free weight training and day care.

EDUCATION

The Colquitt County school system is comprised of a number of campuses for primary and secondary education. Information on each of these schools can be found at the Board of Education website.

Post-secondary education opportunities are also available either in or near Moultrie. Moultrie Technical College provides vocational instruction for many citizens in Moultrie and the surrounding area. A satellite campus of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College is located in Moultrie, while the main campus is located in nearby Tifton. A satellite campus of Brewton Parker College is also available in nearby Norman Park. Valdosta State University, one of the larger colleges in Georgia, is located 40 miles southeast of Moultrie, and Florida State University is located in Tallahassee, just 60 miles south.
