Medical Education | Medical Residency | Medical Resident | Residency Program | Resident Spotlight

For Dr. Caleb Rowan, a passion for both science and service has guided his path toward a fulfilling career in medicine. Originally from Tallahassee, Florida, his interest in healthcare was sparked early by a fascination with chemistry and a desire to use that knowledge to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

Rowan earned his undergraduate degree from Florida State University and went on to attend medical school at the University of Florida. When selecting a residency program, he was drawn to the Georgia South Psychiatry Residency Program in Moultrie for its close-knit community, welcoming environment, and proximity to home. The warmth of the people, the quality of training, and the supportive atmosphere made it an ideal fit.

“My experience at Georgia South has been awesome,” said Rowan. “We have a lot of wonderful preceptors who are great at teaching. The work-life balance here is very good, which I find conducive to experimenting, learning, and developing as a physician.”

Psychiatry appealed to Rowan because of its deep focus on communication, connection, and the human experience. He appreciates the opportunity to build strong doctor-patient relationships and to engage with patients in a way that addresses both their physical and emotional well-being.

His decision to train at Colquitt Regional was also influenced by the hospital’s outstanding reputation for compassionate care and its welcoming culture. He describes it as a place where residents are genuinely supported and encouraged to thrive both personally and professionally.

Faith plays an integral role in Rowan’s approach to medicine. Guided by a commitment to Christ-centered care, he strives to reflect his values in his daily work and long-term goals. His aspiration is to live a life that glorifies God while serving others through his practice. One of his most memorable moments in residency, he notes, was a profound experience of spiritual connection that reaffirmed his calling to medicine.

Outside of medicine, Rowan enjoys staying active and creative. He spends his free time playing guitar, basketball, and chess, and he embraces adventure whenever possible—having even gone skydiving, an experience he recalls with great enthusiasm.

Rowan continues to approach each day with curiosity, purpose, and gratitude. With his strong faith, compassion for others, and dedication to his craft, he exemplifies the mission of Georgia South and the spirit of service that defines the Colquitt Regional community.
