Resident Spotlight: Dr. Christian Edwards

Born and raised in Moultrie, Georgia, Dr. Christian Edwards embodies the essence of a homegrown physician. His journey has come full circle, and his deep connections to the community inspire his commitment to serve the people he knows and loves.

“My grandfather, Bill Edwards, passed away from cancer in 2015,” Edwards shared. “Witnessing the care he received from local physicians was incredibly impactful. They offered peace and assurance during a challenging time, and it motivated me to pursue a career in healthcare. A couple of years later, my first son was born at Colquitt Regional, and that experience further fueled my passion for medicine.”

Edwards attended the University of Georgia for his undergraduate studies and returned to Moultrie. After several years serving in ministry, he decided to make a career transition and applied to begin medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine – South Georgia. It was a natural choice for him to continue his residency at Georgia South Family Medicine Residency Program at Colquitt Regional.

“The relationships I’ve built in this community are what brought me back,” he explained. “Dr. Kirby Smith, program director, was my family physician growing up and he has always represented the ideal physician. Training under him and the team at Georgia South has been a perfect fit.”

Now in his second year of residency, his experience at Georgia South and Colquitt Regional has been nothing short of rewarding.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here,” said Edwards. “The attending physicians are enthusiastic about teaching, and the entire staff has created a warm, supportive learning environment. Everyone—from the nursing team to administration—has been eager to help.”

Edwards appreciates the diverse training opportunities available to him. “Colquitt Regional offers a wide range of exposure to subspecialties while maintaining a small-town atmosphere. This allows us to approach specialists with questions and gain invaluable insights.”

As he looks toward the future, Edwards is dedicated to serving the Moultrie community as a family physician. “Anna, my wife, and I love this town,” Edwards said. “It’s been my dream to give back to the community where I grew up.”

He has a particular passion for obstetrical care, finding joy in guiding mothers through childbirth and caring for their newborns. “Building relationships with families and providing continuity of care is what draws me to family medicine,” said Edwards. “I love getting to know patients on a personal level.”

Outside of his medical pursuits, Edwards enjoys spending time with his wife and their four children: Aslan, Roman, Moses, and Selah. He also enjoys playing pickleball and taking on home renovation projects. “With four kids under six, life is certainly interesting,” said Edwards.

As he continues his residency at Georgia South, Edwards is excited about the opportunities ahead and is committed to making a lasting impact in the Moultrie community he proudly calls home.
