Physical Therapy
Tina Jenkins, PT, OTR/L
Tina Jenkins, PT, OTR/L, is a physical and occupational therapist who joined the Vereen Center staff in 2015 after spending almost twenty years with the Phoebe-Worth Medical Center. As part of the Vereen Team, Tina will be working with both inpatient and outpatient cases for physical and occupational therapy.
Tina brings a wealth of experience to the Vereen Team. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1982. Continuing her education at Belmont University, Tina earned her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy there in 2004. When asked what she enjoyed most about working in physical and occupational therapy, Tina replied: “The rehabilitation profession gives me an opportunity to let a little love shine through on a daily basis.” One of the current topics in rehabilitation that interests her most is helping individuals to age well and be healthy for life.
Originally from South Carolina, Tina is married to Butch Jenkins, who is also a physical therapist. They have three children – Johnathan works in financial information systems, Savannah is pursuing a DPT in physical therapy at the University of St. Augustine (FL), and William Hunter is a freshman soccer player at the University of Charleston (WV). Tina and Butch reside in Sumner and enjoy farming, hiking, biking, and traveling in their free time together.
Scott Romanowski, PT, OCS, OMPT
T. Scott Romanowski, PT, OCS, OMPT, is the Assistant Vice President of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Services for the Vereen Rehabilitation Center at Colquitt Regional Health System. A 1988 graduate of the University of Buffalo, Scott has served as a director for several rehabilitation facilities and, from 1995-2002, served as the program director for the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at Southern Regional Technical College in Thomasville, GA.
Scott was first recognized as Board Certified in Orthopedics by the American Physical Therapy Association in 1993 and has completed an eighteen-month clinical residency program and passed the requirements to be designated as an Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapist.
Scott served a seven-year term as a committee chair for the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy, which is responsible for the construction of the national PT and PTA licensure examinations and has been appointed to serve on the new National Continuing Competence Task Force for the same organization. He was also recognized by the Physical Therapy Association of Georgia as the Physical Therapist of the Year for 2002 and has received the Distinguished Service Award from the Federation of State Boards.
Within the scope of physical therapy practice, Scott is interested in the treatment of sports and orthopedic injuries, obstetric and spinal/pelvic disorders, and particularly the treatment of chronic headaches.
Tony Sheffield, PT
Tony Sheffield, PT, is a staff physical therapist at Colquitt Regional Health System. A 1996 graduate of Georgia State University, Tony has spent the last 18 years providing physical therapy services in the South Georgia area. Tony is married to his wife Fran and they live in Cairo with their two children, Fletcher (11) and Sarah (9).
Tony has been a member of the staff here since 2006. He has advanced training in orthopedics with emphasis on the treatment of neck, back and pelvis disorders. He has a special interest in treating endurance athletes (runners, triathletes, cyclists) and is currently working toward designing a program specific to these athletes.
Brandon Smith, PT, DPT
Brandon Smith, PT, DPT, came to the Vereen Rehabilitation Center as a Physical Therapist in 2016. A graduate of the University of Georgia, Brandon completed his doctorate in physical therapy at Nova Southeastern University in the spring of 2015.
Brandon, born and raised in Colquitt County, resides once again in Moultrie with his wife, Alexa. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, which includes Vereen Team PTA Jessica Edwards – playing golf, and running.
Within the scope of physical therapy practice, Brandon is interested in the treatment of orthopedic injuries. As a PT on the Vereen Team, he will work in the areas of both inpatient and outpatient care.
Stella Wingate, PT, DPT, ATRIC
Stella F. Wingate, PT, DPT, ATRIC, has been a staff physical therapist at Colquitt Regional Health System since 2005.
Born and raised in the Philippines, Stella graduated with a B.S. Physical Therapy degree in 2003 from Cebu Doctors’ University. Stella became licensed in her country the same year and was practicing and teaching at her Alma Mater before being employed at Colquitt Regional and the Vereen Center. Since coming to live in Moultrie, Stella has provided services to geriatrics, orthopedics, neurologic, and pediatric populations in and the surrounding areas.
Stella has also recently completed her doctorate degree in physical therapy at Shenandoah University and obtained an aquatic certification with the Aquatic Therapy & Rehab Institute.
Within the scope of physical therapy practice, Stella is interested in the treatment of spinal and pelvic disorders, orthopedic injuries, post-surgical and post-traumatic care.
James Davis, PTA
James Davis, PTA, is a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant at the Vereen Rehabilitation Center. A graduate of Darton State College, James has worked in the field for over 10 years. He has a background as a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked two years as a PRN staff therapist for Vereen before coming on board full-time in 2018.
Raised in Doerun, James now resides in Moultrie with his wife. In his free time, he enjoys volunteering with local substance abuse recovery programs, working in his yard, and spending time with friends and family.
As a PTA on the Vereen Team, James will work primarily in the areas of inpatient care and home health.
James Davis is a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant at the Vereen Center. He grew up in Doerun, Georgia. He decided to pursue a healthcare career and became a Certified Nursing Assistant, graduating from Darton State College in 1999.
After graduation, Davis got hired as a CNA at Cook Community Center. He specialized in restorative care, and his main job duties were to help patients with their range of motion and walking therapies. While at the center, Davis was considering a career shift. He went back to Darton in 2015 and was studying to be a social worker, but a friend of his, Frank George, encouraged him to stay in healthcare.
“Frank is an Occupational Therapist,” Davis said. “He convinced me to switch to a Physical Therapist Assistant, as it was similar to what I do now. So, I decided to give that a try.”
After getting his PTA certification, as well as a degree in health information, Davis started working at South Georgia Medical Center in 2016. He later learned of an opportunity to fill a position at the Vereen Center through George. He joined the staff full-time in 2018.
Davis said his job now is similar to his role as a CNA, but he is more hands-on and given more responsibility.
“My workday varies,” he said. “ A PTA can work at a variety of places and environments. I look at my schedule, PT evaluation, and goals. I begin to administer treatment. The only difference is I can’t do evaluation and discharge.”
He is satisfied with the transition into his new role.
“Vereen is an umbrella organization, and it covers outpatient and home health,” he said. “I love working with home health and seeing people get better. Seeing that smile come on their face is a reward.”
Davis resides in Moultrie with his wife. In his free time, he enjoys volunteering with local substance abuse recovery programs, working in his yard, and spending time with friends and family. He also coaches flag football in the summer.
“I love helping the youth as well as being outdoors and playing sports,” he said. “Doing what I love while helping others is my life.”
Beth Middleton, PTA
Beth Middleton, PTA, has been employed as a Physical Therapist Assistant at Colquitt Regional Health System
since 1998. Beth graduated with honors from Southwest Georgia Technical College in Thomasville, Ga., in June 1998.
Beth worked as a PT tech for 2 years while attending PTA school. In 1997, she was recognized as the Georgia Hospital Association G.R.E.A.T. Ambassador, Giving Recognition for Excellence, Advocacy and Teamwork in the hospital, community and profession. Beth also served in the employee committee for 3 years, 2 of them as Secretary.
Beth enjoys all aspects of her job, but especially enjoys working with post-surgical patients, strokes & wound care.
Occupational Therapy
Chris Stroh, OTR/L, CHT
Chris Stroh, OTR/L, CHT is the Occupational Therapist/Certified Hand Therapist at the Vereen Rehabilitation Center. Chris graduated from South Dakota State University in 1992 with a B.S. degree in Biology/Chemistry and he then attended Florida A & M University, where he received his B.S. degree in Occupational Therapy.
Chris’s work experience includes: 1) Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, for 2 years, in a primarily acute care setting, providing services for orthopedic, neurologic, and general medical conditions. 2) HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital, for 7 years, in an inpatient and outpatient setting, providing care for orthopedic, neurologic, and general conditions. He was also involved with the Industrial Rehabilitation program, where he performed quality assurance checks for regional Functional Capacity/Work Capacity Assessments. Chris is also a Certified Hand Therapist, which is a particularly challenging certification that is highly respected within the medical community.
Chris has been employed at Colquitt Regional Health System since 2004 and specializes in the treatment of upper extremity injuries with a particular interest in orthopedic injuries of the shoulder and hand.
Sabrina J Shumans, COTA/L
Sabrina Jacobs Shumans, COTA/L, joined the Occupational Therapy department at Vereen Rehabilitation Center in January 2014 as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. She is a 2006 graduate of Middle Georgia College in Cochran, GA. Sabrina received her Georgia Occupational Therapy Assistant license in 2006 and most recently earned her Physical Agent Modalities certification in 2013.
Sabrina began her career as a COTA/L at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, GA, where she worked 2 years in the inpatient rehab unit, providing skilled services to patients with conditions including CVA, upper and lower orthopedics, and cardiac conditions. Before joining the Colquitt Regional team, she was employed with Select Medical at Cobblestone Nursing Center in Moultrie, GA, for 5 years, providing Occupational Therapy services to patients in a skilled nursing setting with conditions including upper and lower orthopedics, cardiac, CVA, and generalized deconditioning following recent hospitalization.
A native of Moultrie, Sabrina graduated from Colquitt County High School in 2003. She is an active member of Autreyville Baptist Church and a member of the Hamilton Elementary School PTO. She is married to Neil Shumans, a local bank manager. They have two daughters, Abbie and Allie.
Sabrina Shumans is a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant at the Vereen Center, where she works with Occupational Therapists to help patients who have difficulties performing daily tasks due to illness or injury. She grew up in Colquitt County and graduated from Colquitt County High School in 2003. After graduation, she decided to obtain a license as an Occupational Therapy Assistant at Middle Georgia State University. She completed her studies in 2006.
“I decided to just get the associate’s degree because I was not interested in nursing,” Shumans said. “I still wanted to primarily focus on patient care, though, so I stuck with science and getting the certificate.”
Shumans worked her first COTA/L job at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Georgia, where she worked at the rehab clinic. She held that position for two years.
She then went to work for the Cobblestone Nursing Center in Moultrie, Georgia, from 2008 to 2013. She helped patients with orthopedics and deconditioning (from hospitalization). In 2013, Shumans decided to get another certificate, this time for Physical Agent Modalities.
Shumans heard about the Vereen Center in 2014 when an assistant position opened up. Shumans decided to apply, and she has called it home ever since.
“I am glad I joined the team back in 2014,” she said. “The best part about the job is the family atmosphere. Everyone’s close. It’s also local.”
Shumans made it clear she plans on staying with Vereen for the long haul.
“I am very comfortable with my position as the Occupational Therapy Assistant,” she said. “I have no plans to do anything else at this time.”
When she is not working, Shumans describes herself as family-oriented, as she enjoys attending Autreyville Baptist Church every week alongside her husband and two daughters. She also likes to be active in her children’s academics and extracurriculars, as she is a member of the Parent-Teacher Organization for Hamilton Elementary School.

Heather Edwards
Heather Edwards has been the Speech Office Coordinator at Colquitt Regional Health System since May 2018.
She graduated in 2002 from Valdosta State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education. She worked as an educator with the Colquitt County Board of Education and immediately before coming to CRMC, she served as the Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator and End of Pathways testing coordinator at Colquitt County High School.
Heather communicates and coordinates with patients and families to help them receive the exceptional care our Speech Department offers to our patients.
