Dr. Thomas Estes is currently the director of the Wound Care Clinic at the Vereen Rehabilitation Center.  His primary  practice is housed in the Sterling Center, a new state-of-the-art facility that opened its doors in 2016.

Dr. Estes was raised in the small west Georgia town of Gay.  His father, A.G. Estes, Jr., was a farmer and cotton broker and his mother, Jane Lane Estes, was a Berry College honor graduate.  They both fostered Thomas’ interest in medicine at an early age.  After graduating from Greenville High School and completing his freshman pre-med curriculum at the University of Georgia, Thomas began his early surgery training as a Scrub Technician at Coweta General Hospital in Newnan, Georgia.  Jack Powell, Jr., M.D., FACS, became his mentor and surgical hero, and Dr. Estes continued to work as a scrub nurse throughout undergraduate and medical school.

Thomas Estes and Jennie Keith graduated from the University of Georgia in June 1974 and were married in July.  Jennie taught school as Thomas attended the Medical College of Georgia and began his surgical residency at Georgia Baptist Medical Center.  Thomas completed his surgical residency and moved directly to Moultrie in 1983 and joined Drs. Haney and Houston.

Dr. Estes has served as a pillar of the medical community in Moultrie since his arrival.  He was certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1984 and became a fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1985.  He is also a member of the Georgia Surgical Society.  Dr. Estes has served three terms as Chief of Surgery at Colquitt Regional Medical Center, and was Chief of Staff for 1989-1990.  He is a director of Ameris Bank in Moultrie, and he is a member of both the First United Methodist Church and the YMCA in Moultrie.

Dr. and Mrs. Estes have two children and both graduated as Valedictorians of Colquitt County High School.  Dr. Thomas Lane Estes, Jr. and his wife Dr. Amy Johnston Estes are Assistant Professors of Radiology and Opthamology/Corneal Surgery at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia.  They have two children, Thomas Lane Estes III (6) and Kaitlyn Quinn Estes (2).  Daugher Lenora Jane graduate Summa Cum Laude from the University of Georgia and earned a Master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University.  She is now an associate editor of Vanity Fair Magazine and she was recently married to Alexanre Thomé of Sao Paulo, Brazil.  They reside in Brooklyn, New York.
