Reflecting Service Excellence

Since 2012, the annual Walter E. Harrison Jr. Humanitarian Award recognizes an individual healthcare worker who demonstrates a commitment to compassionate healthcare service and community outreach … the guiding principles of Dr. Harrison’s medical career.

Dr. Harrison believed in helping those in need and practiced this belief both at home and in medical missions abroad. Established after his death in December 2010, a restricted fund pays for expenses related to presenting this annual award. An anonymous donor made a generous contribution in memory of Dr. Harrison to fund the award.

An advisory board created by the Foundation advises, nominates and selects one recipient each calendar year. The board includes the Foundation chairman and president, a member of Dr. Harrison’s family, one physician from the hospital medical staff, and one community leader.
