Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get started on my weight loss journey?
The first step in our program is to make an appointment for a free, 30-minute consultation with our team. Click here to schedule your appointment.
Which bariatric procedure is right for me?
This decision is typically made during the initial consultation between you and your physician. At Sterling Center Bariatrics, we want to set you up for success and help you choose the procedure that is best suited to you.
Will I have to go on a diet before I have surgery?
Yes. Most bariatric surgeons put their patients on a special pre-operative diet, usually 2 or 3 weeks just before surgery. The reason for the pre-operative diet is to shrink the liver and reduce fat in the abdomen. This helps during the procedure and makes it safer.
Some insurance companies require a physician-monitored diet three to six months prior to surgery as part of their coverage requirement. These diets are very different from the short term diets, and usually are more about food education and showing a willingness to complete appointments and to learn.
How long will I have to stay in the hospital after my surgery?
While this varies for each person, most patients get to leave the hospital within 1-3 days after their surgery.
How long should I expect to be off from work?
For the majority of our patients, it is safe to return to work two weeks after your surgery. If you have a more physically demanding job, you may be advised by your physician to stay out for up to four weeks.
Will I have to follow a special diet after surgery?
For the first few months after your surgery, there will be a special diet in place to focus on healing your body. You will work your way up from clear liquids to full liquids and then advance from pureed and soft foods to regular foods. Sticking with this diet will allow your body to properly heal, decrease pressure on your stomach, and optimize your weight loss.
Will I regain my weight?
Our comprehensive program was built to help set our patients up for long-term success. If you are not committed fully to the program and do not follow all the steps laid out by the Sterling Bariatrics team, you may experience weight regain. Weight loss surgery is only the first step in your journey to a healthier lifestyle; commitment plays a large role in setting yourself up for success.
