Edwards Cancer Center Now Offering Scalp Cooling System for Cancer Patients

The Edwards Cancer Center at Colquitt Regional is proud to announce the addition of the Paxman Scalp Cooling System, an innovative technology designed to help minimize hair loss of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

The Paxman Scalp Cooling System works by lowering the temperature of the scalp, reducing blood flow to hair follicles during cancer treatment sessions. This process helps protect hair follicles from the damage caused by certain chemotherapy drugs, significantly reducing the likelihood of hair loss for some patients.

“We are thrilled to bring the Paxman Scalp Cooling System to our patients,” said Colquitt Regional President and CEO Jim Matney. “We understand that hair loss is one of the most distressing side effects of cancer treatment for many individuals and are proud to offer this technology.  Our aim is to provide patients with both physical and emotional comfort during their cancer journey.”

The Paxman Scalp Cooling System has been proven effective in clinical trials. It is available to patients receiving specific types of chemotherapy that are associated with hair loss. The system is easy to use, with patients wearing a cooling cap connected to a compact refrigeration unit throughout their treatment.

This technology has been used by over 100,000 patients worldwide and is available at more than 500 locations across the U.S. It is the leading solution for chemotherapy-related hair loss and has proven to significantly reduce the emotional impact of cancer treatment.

“We are committed to providing the latest advancements in healthcare technology right here at Colquitt Regional, ensuring our patients receive the highest-quality care close to home,” said Hospital Authority Chairman John Griffin. “This new technology is another step in our ongoing efforts to support and ease the journey for our cancer patients.”
