An infectious disease, also known as a transmissible disease or communicable disease, is an illness resulting from an infection. Infections can be caused by a wide range of pathogens, most prominently bacteria and viruses. Sometimes infections can cause discomfort, nausea, redness or swelling, or a variety of other symptoms.
Each situation is different, and patients will be analyzed based on their specific symptoms, and then treated accordingly using antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals, or other appropriate medications or techniques.
