Georgia South Graduate Medical Education and Colquitt Regional Medical Center are located in the heart of Southwest Georgia, and we work together to meet the growing needs of our region. In 2016, Colquitt Regional transitioned to a teaching hospital and welcomed its first class of family medicine residents through our Georgia South Family Medicine Residency Program. This was the first residency program to be developed in our region in over 20 years. In 2019, Colquitt Regional began developing a psychiatry residency program in partnership with Turning Point Behavioral Health Hospital which welcomed its first class of residents in 2022.
Graduate medical education changes rapidly in response to a variety of forces, including healthcare demands from the public, new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques and changes in certification requirements.
Colquitt Regional Medical Center and Georgia South Residency Programs work with our clinical affiliates and program administration to meet the demands of this changing environment. We use the diverse training opportunities available through our region to offer dynamic programs that prepare residents for a lifetime of leadership in their chosen profession.
