Georgia South Graduate Medical Education Holds Second Annual Regional Education Event

The day was filled with engaging presentations and team-building activities, providing a dynamic platform for educationrelated to the accreditation and management of graduate medical education (GME) programs and their sponsoring institutions. Throughout the day, faculty and residents took part in academic lectures covering various topics presented by program faculty, a research poster presentation, a simulation challenge and other interactive competitions for residents.

“Now in its second year, this gathering continues to be a success in bringing together residency programs from across the region,” said Colquitt Regional President and CEO Jim Matney. “Collaboration is imperative for progress and growth in themedical education pipeline. Through this event, the three hospitals, all part of the South Georgia Medical Education and Research Consortium, demonstrated their collective efforts to enhance the quality of medical training and healthcare access in the region.”

Consortium member hospitals have been successful in the development and accreditation of a family medicine residency program, a psychiatry residency program, and two internal medicine residency programs. Accredited residency programs provide critical access to patients and generate over $1.5 million in economic impact in the communities they serve.

“We are proud to work together with other programs to ensure that our residents receive high-quality medical education andexperiences right here in Southwest Georgia,” said Hospital Authority Chairman Richard E. Turner, Jr. “It is rewarding to be able to host this event in our new state-of-the-art medical education center and a testament to the dedication and progress our community has made in becoming a teaching hospital.”

Participants echoed sentiments of appreciation for the opportunity to engage with colleagues from different institutions and to glean insights from diverse experiences and perspectives shared during the event.

“The camaraderie and wealth of knowledge shared at this event have been invaluable,” said Georgia South Psychiatry Residency Program resident Xuan Ouyang, DO. “It was great not only to spend time with my co-residents but with residents from other programs.
