In 1939, on the heels of the Great Depression, W.C. Vereen called on the community to match his generous pledge of $50,000 which could secure the land and build and equip Colquitt County’s first public hospital. As a result, and along with the assistance of Franklin Roosevelt’s Work in Progress Administration, the Moultrie Hospital Corporation was formed.
The first public hospital, Vereen Memorial Hospital, was dedicated in October of 1939. More than half a century later, much has changed at Colquitt Regional Medical Center, including the name. However, the generosity and concern of our citizens who support the tradition of quality health care in this community continue.
In 1988, the Colquitt Regional Medical Foundation was established to ensure health care excellence for future generations. As a not-for-profit community hospital, Colquitt Regional Medical Center faces many challenges and needs. Support from private citizens helps provide the newest medical technology, improve patient care, upgrade existing facilities, and furnish education and preventive health opportunities for the community. The Colquitt Regional Medical Foundation funds are used for accomplishing these goals — not for operating expenses.
Knowing that you can contribute to the quality of life in this community or helped to save or improve life is a rewarding aspect of giving to the Medical Foundation. Your gift to the Medical Foundation is tax-deductible. In addition, Founder Society and Business Partner donors receive special recognition and are invited to special events sponsored by the hospital.
The Colquitt Regional Medical Foundation has established gift levels to encourage and recognize financial support from you, your friends, and neighbors. Colquitt Regional Medical Center is as basic and essential to community life as our churches and schools. Our hospital deserves the financial support of our community.
