Colquitt Regional Volunteers Donate Life Saving Rapid Response Kit to Maternal Infant Unit

Colquitt Regional Volunteers recently donated two postpartum hemorrhage carts to the hospital’s maternal infant unit.

These carts were purchased after Labor and Delivery staff identified the need and brought it to the Volunteers. The postpartum hemorrhage cart is a Rapid Response Unit designed to quickly and efficiently treat patients who are experiencing a postpartum hemorrhage.

“Our volunteers continue to help meet the needs of our hospital with their time, talents, and with funds they raise,” said Colquitt Regional President and CEO Jim Matney. “They are an exceptional group of men and women and contribute greatly to the success of our organization.”

Postpartum hemorrhage is severe bleeding after childbirth and is the leading cause of maternal death worldwide. The postpartum hemorrhage cart contains necessary supplies and reduces the nursing staff’s response time during a hemorrhage emergency.

“Our nurses are very aware of the issues we face when having a hemorrhage crisis in our department and what it requires to respond,” said Director of Maternal Infant Unit Kelly Goff. “They have received training on what to do when this particular health emergency occurs, but having this Rapid Response Unit helps to centralize all necessary equipment and supplies and allows them to keep their focus on treating the patient as quickly and safely as possible.”

Volunteers support many health initiatives throughout Colquitt Regional Medical Center by donating money for various equipment and supplies.

“With the funds raised by our volunteers, they have been able to donate needed technology and resources to various departments throughout the hospital,” said Hospital Authority Chairman Richard E. Turner, Jr. “Colquitt Regional is blessed to have such a devoted, compassionate group of volunteers.”

Recently, Volunteers have donated funds for the purchase of blanket warmers for Colquitt Regional’s oncology and dialysis units and AIRVO oxygen units for Colquitt Regional’s Respiratory department.

Funds for these donations are made possible through the proceeds from The Pink Pearl Gift Shop in the hospital’s main lobby. The Pink Pearl carries a variety of gift items, apparel, jewelry, flowers, and candies. The earnings of the gift shop allow volunteers to purchase necessary equipment for the hospital, donate annually to hospital improvement projects, and contribute to the community through community service projects.
